      Amir Zaki

      Amir Zaki

Not only a prolific musician but a pioneer of the live music scene, Amir Zaki was a virtuoso always ahead of his time. He began pursuing music at the early of eight where he began self-training and perfecting the art. By the time he was a teenager, he was also proficient at the piano, drums, alto saxophone, bass guitar and his primary love, the guitar. Soon after, Zaki was picked up by pop legend, Alamgir, and consequently toured with him and played on two of his albums. The prodigy played on a v-shaped guitar he constructed himself.

Zaki was an active voice for the youth as he championed bands like Axe Attack and Scratch. With Axe Attack, Zaki created one of the first English albums in Pakistan, “The Bomb”. A politically charged and linguistically aberrant album, it was not picked up by any local record labels. The album was released in Australia to much critical acclaim.

In 1995, Zaki launched his debut album “Signature” and was awarded a gold disc by Sound Craft UK. His single, “Mera Pyar”, has been one of the most popular tracks in the country since it’s release. After touring with artists like Vital Signs and Awaz, Zaki released a second album in collaboration with Hadiqa Kiani in 2007. Zaki had since been an active member of the live music scene in Pakistan where he was often seen as a session player and featured artist. He was also actively teaching music in Karachi.

Zaki debuted in Season 7 of Coke Studio as a guest musician playing some stellar, masterful solos on tracks with Asrar and Zoheb Hasan. Join us in Season 10 of Coke Studio as we bid farewell to one of the most decorated artists of our time.
